Ever Learning:
The Fundamentals and History of Western Philosophy
by Robert W. Watson
Objectives and Schedule for the course
Sample--Introduction and Lesson 1
Based on the popular novel, Sophie's World, which is used as the text, this is a survey course for introducing Christian students to the major western philosophers and their ideas. The author Robert Watson has studied philosophy in graduate school at the University of Georgia. Watson succeeds by making the course challenging, but at the same time not being overly comprehensive. The course is intended for 11th and 12th grade students who need an elective in humanities, religion, or philosophy. The course is designed and scheduled for 18 weeks (one semester) of study. However, the course can be spread out over a period of 36 weeks if a slower pace is desired. Included in the package is the student binder with nearly 400 pages of material, answer keys to the 35 lessons, 17 weekly quizzes (bi-weekly if taking 36 weeks), and a final exam. The text, Sophie's World, is included free of charge. Since this is an introduction to the study of philosophy, the course centers for the most part on objective knowledge of the material. While there is oblivously analysis of the various philosophical theories, emphasis is placed on the student's learning the terms and personalities associated with western philosophy.
Package includes study guide, answer keys, quizzes, and the text, Sophie's World.
